Notes:

• Richard Kirkland was suffering from multiple myeloma. He was unable to find a matching donor for a bone marrow transplant and believed that his son Zach's umbilical cord blood could be used to treat his condition.
• Marcy Kirkland would not release the blook to Richard, at first claiming she wanted to keep it in reserve just in case Zach became ill. She later admitted to Lori that the real reason was that Richard was not Zach's real father. She did not want to tell Richard the truth because he knew it would shatter him.
• Paul Lewiston counseled Lori that she was obligated to reveal the truth to her client, but she instead told Richard a lie - that the blood had been accidentally destroyed during a lab transfer.
