CP&S Representation: Alan ShoreOpposing Counsel: A.D.A. Allison Hayes
Presiding: Judge Clark BrownResult: Judge Brown accepts the plea, but with a condition attached.
Notes: - The prosecution offered a plea of reckless endangerment in exchange for probation, which the defendant accepted.
- Judge Brown was angered at the plea to a lesser charge, and wanting to make an example of Mr Mack, accepted the plea on the condition that Mr Mack stand outside his Green Street property for four continuous hours, wearing a sign reading "I Am A Slum Lord" around his neck.
- Less than 20 minutes into the sentence, Mr Mack was struck on the head by a glass bottle thrown by a resident of the property, and was taken to hospital.
- Judge Brown's previous record of humiliating sentences, coupled with his lack of sympathy for the attack on Mr Mack, caused Alan Shore to bring Judge Brown before a disciplinary panel, but the hearing was cut short when Paul Lewiston interrupted the proceedings.
- Alan Shore brought Judge Brown's mother to the courtroom the following day, having surmised that it was her influence that led to her son's sentencing methods, and appealed to Brown's sense of morality and fairness. The humiliating sentence was lifted on the condition that Mr Mack complete the repairs listed on the plea agreement in one week's time.
