The Cross-Dressing Santa Claus

Boston Legal 1x08 [Loose Lips] He hasn't gone homo erectus on me, if that's what you're wondering.
Episode: 1x08 [Loose Lips]
Client: Gil Furnald
Case: The client sued Gordon's Department Store for wrongful termination
CP&S Representation: Denny Crane, then Alan Shore
Opposing Counsel: Attorney Paul Phillips
Presiding: Judge Harry Hingham
Result: The client got his job back.
Notes:
  • Mr. Furnald had been fired from his part-time job as a department store Santa Claus, despite having performed well at the job for eight years. The grounds for dismissal were that he had discussed his cross-dressing habit with a child while on the job.
  • Denny volunteered to take the case, but after learning that the client was a transvestite, he turned the case over to Alan.
  • Brad Chase suggested another wager with Alan (having done so before in the Orphan Annie case) - if Alan lost the case, he would have to spend a day as Brad's "elf", while if he won the case, Brad would have to do the same for Alan.
  • Brad stacked the case against Alan by pulling some strings to get Judge Hingham, a known homophobe, assigned to the case.
  • As with their earlier wager, Alan called on the services of Reverend Al Sharpton, who appeared in court on behalf of the "holly, jolly homosexual".
  • Either the department store agreed to settle (likely) or the judge ruled in favor of Mr Furnald, as in the next scene we see Brad in elf costume and Mr. Furnald thanking Alan for getting his job back.
