The SV113 Clinical Trial
Episode: 1x09 [A Greater Good] Client: Dr Amanda Gerard (pharmaceutical company spokesperson)
Case: A pharmaceutical company is being sued by a woman claiming she was wrongfully removed from a clinical trial for a new diabetes medicine.
CP&S Representation: Denny Crane and
Alan ShoreOpposing Counsel: Attorney Greg Montero
Presiding: Judge Dale Wallace
Result: Dr Amanda Gerard admitted the real reason why the participants were removed from the study.
Notes: - The plaintiff said that the reason she was given for being removed from the study was noncompliance.
- Upon meeting with the client, Denny Crane and Alan Shore discovered that the subjects removed from the trial were unknowingly participating in a study of a drug yet to be approved by the FDA, and were removed from the trial due to serious side effects found in a patient who commenced the trial ahead of the others.
- Denny and Alan disagreed on whether the doctor should admit to giving the participants an unapproved drug, and as the pharmaceutical company is one of Crane, Poole and Schmidt's most valuable clients, Paul Lewiston said that it would be Denny asking the questions, which he did, despite Alan's attempts to sabotage him.
- When Alan offered to defend Dr Amanda Gerard against the criminal charges that would be brought against her for administering the unapproved drug, she revealed that she was the patient who started the trial early.
