Father Ryan is the priest who, in episode 2x09 [Gone], refused to cooperate with "Special Agent Robb" (Brad Chase) and "Special Agent Beadle" (Denise Bauer) when they produced a (fake) warrant to search his office for clues into the kidnapping of young Tito Perez. Father Ryan lost three fingers trying to protect his ornate office door from an axe wielded by "Agent Rob" (Brad). In episode 2x10 [Legal Deficits], after Brad has been arrested for assault, Father Ryan testifies for the prosecution but is picked apart by Shirley Schmidt's cross-examination.

Richard Fancy has had a long and varied career on film and television, dating back to the 1984 miniseries George Washington. His connections to the cast and creatives of Boston Legal include appearances on Murphy Brown (1992) with Candice Bergen, Star Trek: The Next Generation (1992), David E. Kelley's LA Law (1987, 1988, 1993), and Star Trek: Voyager (1995). Fancy is perhaps best-recalled for his memorable multi-episode turn as Elaine's eccentric boss Mr. Lippman on Seinfeld.
