A veteran actor of both series television and David E. Kelley productions, Larroquette continues an impressive career by joining the Boston Legal cast in the fourth season as the somewhat aloof Carl Sack.
John Larroquette was born November 25 1947 in New Orleans, LA to Bertha Oramous (
née Helmstetter), a department store clerk, and John Edgar Larroquette, a US Naval Officer. He began his career in radio, working to overcome the regional draw he has developed as a youth into the voice he is known for today. This vocal work lead to his narrating the original Texas Chain Saw Massachre (he also worked on the remake) and lead to other acting work, including television series such as "Sanford and Son" and "Fantasy Island." Feature film roles followed, including work in
Altered States,
Stripes, and
Cat People. It was his perfectly pitched role as a smarmy, womanizing District Attourney in the NBC series "Night Court" however, where he is perhaps best known. He starred for nine seasons and won four consecutive Emmy (then a record) before asking to be removed from the ballot. At series end, he continued with both film and series work throughout the nineties. He recieved his fifth Emmy for Outstanding Performance by a Guest Actor in a Drama Series in "The Practice".
John has been married to Elizabeth Larroquette (
née Cook) since 1975 and has three children. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve and is a member of The Libertarian Party. His favorite football team is the New Orleans Saints. He also collects leather-bound first editions and fountain pens and enjoys art.
