The Austin, Texas native is well-known to fans of the sci-fi genre because of her roles in Star Trek: The Next Generation (1991-94), Global Frequency (2005), and Battlestar Galactica (2006) . Besides those roles, she's made a career of playing strong-willed women in other genres as well. She originally featured in the daytime drama The Guiding Light (1987-89) and, in 1990, was nominated for a Daytime Emmy. After moving to Los Angeles to increase her opportunities, she got her breakthrough role as 'Ensign Ro Laren' in ST:TNG but reportedly turned down the opportunity to carry the role into Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. She received acclaim for her performance in the Brad Pitt thriller Kalifornia (1993) and later had recurring roles on police dramas Homicide: Life On the Street (1996-98) and The District (2000). In 2002-3, she appeared on eighteen episodes of 24 ("Day 2") as 'Lynne Kresge' and received a Screen Actors Guild nomination, along with the rest of the cast, for Best Drama Ensemble. In 2006, she had a role on Prison Break as 'Special Agent Samantha Brinker'.
