Officer Lawrence Michaels is a member of the Boston Police Department. In
1x10 [Hired Guns], he and Officer Davis helped
Denny Crane and
Alan Shore by listening to their concerns over the annual "Christmas kidnapping" by Julio Flores of his children from his ex-wife Carmen. Denny used his influence to convince the officers to take action, which they apparently did, leading an enraged Mr. Flores to enter the offices of
Crane, Poole & Schmidt and hold Alan at gunpoint.
In
2x13 [Too Much Information], Officer Michaels was on the scene of
Catherine Piper's first arrest for armed robbery. Alan called the uniformed officer by his first name, "Lawrence", suggesting they were well-acquainted, perhaps just from the Carmen Flores case or maybe other occasions. At any rate, Officer Michaels did Alan a big favor by not placing Catherine under arrest, after which he said to Alan, "You owe me".
With that background in mind, Alan probably wasn't very happy with "Lawrence" in
3x01 [Can't We All Get A Lung?] when he broke in on
Jerry Espenson's sex therapy session with
Joanna Miller and arrested them both on charges of prostitution.
