Eric Payne is Mark Halpern in Boston Legal
Played by Eric Payne

Mark Halpern is a partner at Crane, Poole & Schmidt who first appeared in the opening of the chaotic staff meeting depicted in the series' first episode. It was Halpern who said "Damn it, Denny! This is not a way to run a staff meeting. Where the hell is Edwin?" Edwin Poole promptly strolled into the conference room wearing no pants.

Halpern is next seen in a non-speaking appearance in 1x02 [Still Crazy After All These Years], when he joins a group of other partners to observe Denny's courtroom performance. He is not seen again until 2x11 [The Cancer Man Can], when he chairs the partnership voting meeting and is interrupted by Alan Shore, who makes a plea on behalf of Jerry Espenson.

(NOTE: The character was referred to as Sam Halpern in the press release for his uncredited appearance in episode 1x02. He was referred to as Mark Halpern in the press releases for his two credited appearances, and he was called "Mark" by Denny Crane in a deleted scene from episode 1x01).

Episode appearances:
1x01 [Head Cases]
1x02 [Still Crazy After All These Years] - uncredited
2x11 [The Cancer Man Can]

Halpern was also listed in the guest cast in the press release for 1x06 [Truth Be Told], but he did not appear in the episode.

I just love, love, love your attention to detail, Sue. The fact that you give Halpern a nice write-up - with dialogue - and then sleuthfuly uncover details about his likely-in-error-on-the-writers-part name change is truly interesting. I learn so much here
