Shelley Berman as Judge Robert Sanders in 2x24 [Deep End Of The Poole]Played by Shelley Berman

Judge Robert Sanders first appeared in episode 2x19 [Stick It] when he presided over the federal tax evasion case against Melissa Hughes. He quickly established himself as a no-nonsense judge by expressing his disdain for "jibber-jabber" after an attempt at humor by Melissa's attorney Alan Shore. Despite this, he showed sympathy for Melissa's cause in the end, handing her only a suspended sentence.

Judge Sanders next presided over Denny Crane's attempted murder trial in 2x23 [Race Ipsa], introducing another memorable turn of phrase - "poopycock". Once again, he showed a sympathetic side, letting Denny off with a stern warning even though he fired a gun in the courtroom during the trial. He also presided over the case against Alan Shore in 2x24 [Deep End Of The Poole]

Judge Sanders has also appeared several times in Season 3. He presided over the case of the animal rights activist who threw blue paint on Bella Horowitz in 3x13 [Dumping Bella], the case of the "forgetting pill" in 3x14 [Selling Sickness], the Jerry vs Alan UFO case in 3x16 [The Good Lawyer], and the case of the lawyer who helped his brother try to cover up a murder in 3x19 [Brotherly Love]. He is also scheduled to appear in 3x21 [Tea And Sympathy].

Now in his second season as the befuddled-but-compassionate Judge Robert Sanders on BOSTON LEGAL, Shelley Berman is an accomplished stage, film and television actor who has been delighting audiences in both comedic and dramatic roles for fifty years.

Shelley is also one of the architects of modern standup comedy, having revolutionized the form by breaking away from traditional setup-and-punchline jokes in favor of extended, situational pieces (often improvised) and, as a result, single-handedly creating the market for the comedy album with the release of his first LP in 1959.

To the anonymous person who recently updated Mr. Sanders' biographical information ... while I appreciate your efforts and thank you, I'd prefer that you provide the source for the info, and - if possible - shorten it. I noticed, for instance, that some of the wording was taken word-for-word from Mr. Berman's website, www.shelleyberman.com. I try very hard NOT to have information on this site (ABC press releases aside) that is simply copied verbatim from other sites. For actor bios, I prefer a brief overview along with links to other detailed sources of information. It appears you spent a significant amount time making these updates, and they CAN be recalled. I'd just prefer that you source and edit the information for the sake of brevity. An exhaustive recap of Mr. Berman's career definitely dwarfs the BL-related content on what is supposed to be Judge Sanders' page!
