These days I’m busy watching a TV series called Boston Legal. I find myself obsessed with the protagonist Alan Shore. He possesses three kinds of traits, good, bad and naughty according to his girl friend. He would attack guilty people with unconventional ways, or say, ones out of legal line. Jeopardizing being disbarred, he spares no efforts to help the disadvantageous. His naughty character has been proved in his numerous complicated relationships with females. Admittedly, he draws popularity among them.
He is so attractive that I can’t help setting him as a standard for my would-be life partner. However, can I tolerate my life partner's infidelity as that of Alan for long? I suppose not. Maybe I prefer stability. Yet stability doesn’t mean no passion. Flowers and gifts are needed on certain days. Never forget or be too shy to say
I discover that many married couples have no longer paid attention to their appearance or behavior since they got married. It is terrible. On one hand, it seems to be disrespect to the spouse. On the other hand, it may intrigue the spouse’s affection for other well-groomed ones.
Anyway, Marriage needs managing.

Jerry's Asperger's is a good example of the show being an educational vehicle. I know I had never heard of AS before seeing it on the show.
When I was writing up Jerry's bio, I debated mentioning something that I had read about how folks knowledgeable about the condition were a bit upset about Jerry's violent behavior in "The Cancer Man Can" (though he hadn't been diagnosed yet). It sort of gave the impression that perhaps people with AS are prone to violent outbursts, which isn't necessarily the case.
Since I am NOT an expert on AS, I decided to stick with the details of the story. However, although I always strive to be conscientious in my writing, I was advised anonymously that saying that Jerry "suffers from" a condition was not accurate. It is sufficient to say he "has" (or "has been diagnosed") with the condition. He only "suffers" from it because of the reactions and misunderstanding of others.
Of course, I apologize for the inadvertent slight, and thanks to the person who made the correction.
I'd ask people who know more than I do to please post any thoughts or information about Asperger's here in this comment thread.
Thanks,
Sue_B

Is anyone else sick to death of the liberal crap on the show lately? Seriously, hearing "Shirley" say she "wept" when Obama got elected, and hearing Alan say "the other idiots (Republicans) still have the right to vote".... is really pushing it. I think the writers have gone a bit far with implanting their [ersonal views into the show and force-feeding it to the viewers. True, 53% voted for Obama, but there's still another 47% of the population out there. Must we alienate them???

Well though I agree the show has a liberal tone, I think Alan is much more inclined to see Denny's point of view than vice versa. I also thought as I was watching the show, that they fought for both "sides" as long as there was something moral, just or simply needed thinking about. As for that particular conversation, Alan never said there were only idiots among the conservatives, the way I saw it he was saying that voting for a leader, the leader of the free world even as Americans like to put it, affects your life and whoever votes based solely on good looks/skin color/sports activity/a D or a R next to the name is an idiot. Which means you're just as big an idiot if you voted for Obama simply so you could show that you aren't racist or if you voted for him because Sarah had a scandal or two. The conclusion might be that it doesn't matter who you voted for as long as it was affected by what the person actually stands for. Alan even says that: Alan Shore: Shirley, almost forty-seven percent of this country didn't vote for Obama, perhaps because they disagreed with him on the issues, which is fine.
It might be better to see it like this: season 5x2
ADA John Lennox: Do you think that you understand the complexities of, uh, immigration, the economic recession, the Middle East balance of power, that the—? Marlena Hoffman: Oh, I think I understand it some. Do you think most American voters do? Aren’t you sick of people not voting for a candidate because, hey, they don’t think that they could have a beer with him, or he’s a lousy bowler, or her pantsuits aren’t flattering?

Boston Legal was one of the best show on TV in the past few years( along with The West Wing and The Family Guy). It was funny, touching, made you think and had some of the best characters ever on TV. At the root of of the show were William Shatner's and James Spader's characters Denny Crane and Alen Shore's relationship, they are best friends and truely love each other. The rest of the cast is amazing!!!! And the writing was as good as a TV show can get... Yes it was a liberal show and thank god for that, when did thinking out of the box become so bad?? I will miss it. http://www.dvdcollects.com/products/Boston-Legal-Seasons-1-5-DVD-Boxset-DVDS-1502.html

It took me quite a while to find Boston Legal. but ever since I found it it kept me up at nights :) There's lots of great series out there and I'm quite a fan of some, but thinking of the top of my head I can't remember one series that would fell like this one. They make you think (no matter what side you're on it nice to know the issue), they make you see things in new, sometimes unexpected ways.
I have to say at first, when I only caught a glimpse here and there on the TV it really felt absurd and probably dumb...then I started paying attention to the stories, the causes, the character development...and then all of a sudden there were no more episodes to see...so I wen't on youtube and such and there really isn't that much to find about the show Since i'm slowly going through my third rewatching, this time with the help of a few sites that list a few things about each episode. So the fact that BL is over is a fairly new pain for me, and while it's fresh I need to occupy myself with something connected to it and I think this wiki site might do it. I think I can fill up the blanks as well as give a third perspective since I'm not American, Australian or British. My only concern is that the general mourning seems to have passed and there are basically 2 updates per year here...so come on, some of you must still have the e-mail notifiers on, I need someone to discuss the show with :)

I have a project for a class and would like to use a clip from Boston Legal. Does anyone know of an episode of Boston Legal where a client has been charged with murder and the client has testified at trial that he/she did not commit the murder, but after the testimony, the client privately admits to the lawyer that he/she lied and now admits that he/she intentionally planned and committed the murder before the end of the case and before the defense has not yet rested? It would be great if there is an episode of Boston Legal like this I can use.

It's too bad that this post is so old... you're probably not in that class any more. But there is in Season 5 an episode where a doctor is accused of murder, Alan gets him off because his wife makes it look like she did it, and after the case ends they both inform Alan that he did do it and that they both lied. Interesting premise.

David Kelly!!Are you listening? I'm fine with your liberal views and are also fine with it with a subtle dose of it in Boston Legal. But I see the recent episodes and Alan's arguments in court are an absolute piss where he just goes on his liberal rhetoric ... regardless of the case at hand... Makes him look dumb.. I hope that this show really gets back to its charm.

I am a conservative, and have also been disturbed by the liberal bias lately. But to all of you who have threatened to stop watching, I would say to at least view the "Thanksgiving" episode. It has very little politics, and is the most heartwarming show I have seen on ANY program. You'll love it!

My brother has been arguing with the Mass. Department of Revenue (DOR) about his tax return for years. He has lived in poverty because of their garnishing of his bank accounts and wages. People recognized him by the holes in the soles of his shoes when they were sticking out of the dumpster. The DOR finally sued him for over 40 thousand dollars they said he owed, He counter sued for over 4 million. The DOR decided they had made a mistake and wanted him to drop the case. They DOR has tried on two occasions to get the judge to drop the case, but so far, he has refused. My brother is claiming no only fraud, defamation of character, liable, and slander, but the bigger issue is the unconstitutionally of the tactics used by the DOR for their collections. They can simply tell you that you owe money, then take that money from you without even proving it in court. After they take all your money, they then tell you to sue them. No lawyer will 'take on' the DOR or IRS for they are afraid of them also. So, my brother, who is not a lawyer, is doing this all himself. This would make a great television show!! This is an extremely condensed explanation of what led to this suit. In 1985, our I. R. S. desk-audited my 1982 return, which was timely and correct in every detaiL I begin my benevolences with a 1 st-fruits tithe, and my income was modest, so they decided I had overstated my deductions. They prepared and filed a new return for me, and sent me a bill. This bill included the amount they figured I had underpaid, plus a late-filing penalty based on the date they filed their return, plus interest. Proving again their identity with our I. R. S. by doing no due diligence of their own, our Massachusetts Department of Revenue jumped in, saying, ifI owed the I. R. S., I must owe them, too.I checked my return,

Great show up until the end and this show was my favorite show on T.V. I will never watch it again and I am adding it to the list of Dis the Country shows which I have never watched again. SNL,Leno,Letterman,Oprah, which I stopped watching 2 years ago. I am not alone. Entertainment must be some standard you can't adhere to without offending someone. You didn't offend me you infuriated me. A tried and true Military Man who has dedicated his life to this country against a Pop Star that the public knows NOTHING about. How far we have come and how little we have learned.

At 81 I have viewed many shows through the years and have been sad at the mostly dismal TV programs we have any more but Boston Legal exceeds all my expectations for superb, imaginative, intelligent scripting and fine acting. The above episode was beyond excellent in my estimation, especially its conclusion....portraying on election eve a sensitive, beautifully crafted and touching finale. The scenes of people voting, a pride of country showing on their sober faces and the fine, accompanying music strengthening the effectiveness of that finale superbly could not have been better.! Thank you for this production. Please don't let the excellence of each program EVER slide backwards. Once in a while we viewers need to know what fine acting is all about. Thanks! Trubee
